They are rodents that come from Central Chile. They have been popular pets in the US for many years. However, they can be difficult to find. They do come in several colors and can look similar to a gerbil. They can live up to 9 years and should be kept in same-sex pairs or groups as they are social animals.
Babies wean between 6 and 8 weeks old. These animals require dust baths like chinchillas, hay like a genie pig or rabbit, and special pellets. They also require large, chew-proof cages. I use a critter nation cage with metal Bass pans.
Supplies such as chew proof cages, food, metal wheels and toys can be found at Exotic Nutrition.
You are Required to do your Own research on the proper care, feeding and housing of these animals before you purchase them. It is illegal to release exotic animals into the wild in the USA. If you cannot keep your animals, you must find them new homes. Please be aware of your state's laws, Degu are NOT legal is all states! They are perfectly fine in Florida.
Currently, I have 4 color morphs in my collection. The common brown agouti, the pied, blue, and now sand. I have only 1 blue and 1 sand but am working to breed more.
I do NOT ship, nor do I offer transportation. All degus must be picked up in Spring Hill, FL 34609.
No animal sales to minors under 18 without parent/guardian approval. check with your landlord/significant other before contacting me.
All buyers must bring their own safe/secure transport cage and have supplies and food at home to take care of their degu.
All degus MUST GO IN PAIRS OR GROUPS; if you have a singleton at home now, I *might* alter this rule, but you need to contact me first, and we will discuss it, it is extremely difficult and potentially dangerous to introduce new degu.
*Agouti are $25 each
*Agouti Pied are $50 each
*Blue/silver and sand: None are available at this time, although I do have babies that carry the gene.
*A note about pricing: Feel free to do a Google search for Degu breeders and see what other breeders charge, most prices start at $100 and go up. My prices are extremely fair.
Alia (pied female) and Muoad'dib (agouti het pied male) had a litter of 4 babies born on 02/20/25. The litter is a mix of pieds and agouti.
Jess (a pied het to blue and the daughter of Mytic and Muad'dib) had a litter of 6 babies on 02/19/25. Most of this litter is agouti. These babies have a small chance of carrying the blue coat gene.
Mystic (blue goat) and Moud'dib (agouti het pied male) had a litter of 7 babies born on 02/13/25. One baby did not survive, leaving 6 healthy babies. Most of these babies are pieds. All babies are 50% split to blue coat. These pieds have more white than the other pieds produced this year so far.
This is Duney, a sand color male degu. He *might* carry the blue gene. He is the newest addition to the Degu clan. Unfortunately its going to be some time before he can meet the ladies. Degu have a very rather interesting social order and he is an unknown male. The goal is to replace Ducan with him and pair him up with Jess and Mystic.
Muad'dib
Male Agouti degus who came from a pet store in Ocala FL. He is het for pied.
Mystic is a female blue degu. She came from a friend of mine who got her in a trade. I hope to get babies with her color in the next year or so
This is Duncan. He is a male pied who is het for blue. His mother is Mystic and his father is Muad'dib. The goal is to breed him back to his mother, Mystic, to get blue coated offspring.
